The origins of Fairtrade trace back to the period after World War II in North America, when organizations purchased handicrafts from Puerto Rico. At that time, the first Fairtrade organization in the United States, “Ten Thousand Villages,” was also established. In both Europe and the United States, the first Fairtrade organizations were associated with churches aimed at promoting trade with disadvantaged groups in developing countries. In 1988, the Max Havelaar Foundation obtained Fairtrade certification in the Netherlands and Switzerland, and GEPA3 certification in Germany, which was later proposed by FLO (Fairtrade Labelling Organizations). During the organic product certification conferences promoted by IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements) in the 1990s, a question arose as to whether organic agriculture would become “fair” or whether Fairtrade would specialize in organic production. In recent years, market demand for both organic and Fairtrade products within the same product category has been increasing. Today, multiple organizations collaborate with the Fairtrade sector in production, sales, and certification, with retail sales reaching approximately 600-800 million USD as early as 2013. Therefore, although IBD certification is a certification body for products and processes, it focuses on social and environmental aspects and supports organic agriculture production through a model of economic, environmental, human, and social sustainability.
Since 2004, with the aim of improving local social conditions, Fairtrade, and environmental aspects, IBD certification has introduced Fairtrade certification standards. Fairtrade has been applied in multiple countries across different types of operations to achieve the international principles, purposes, and objectives of sustainable development, and is highly favored by purchasers (especially organic product purchasers).Өгүүлэл нь ...-аас авсанFOFCC-http://fofcc.org.cn/mn/show/8536.html
