After the passing of Academician Sun Tieheng, Party and state leaders sent messages of condolence to express their grief and sympathy. Zhou Ji, President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and provincial and municipal leaders Wang Min, Chen Zhenggao, Zeng Wei, Chen Haibo, Zhao Changyi, Jiang Hong, as well as relevant central, provincial, and municipal units, sent wreaths and elegiac couplets. Academician Sun Tieheng was born in March 1938 and graduated from Shenyang Agricultural College in 1963. In the same year, he began working at the Shenyang Institute of Applied Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he successively served as Director of the Pollution Ecology Research Laboratory, Director of the Institute, and Director of the Academic Committee. In 2000, he led the establishment of FOFCC and served as Deputy Director of the FOFCC Management Committee. In 2001, he was elected as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. From 2004 to 2012, he served as President of Shenyang University. From 2003 onward, he served as Chairman of the Shenyang Association for Science and Technology. Academician Sun Tieheng was a renowned soil scientist, environmental engineering and ecologist, a pioneer and academic leader in China's pollution ecology and environmental engineering, and made outstanding contributions to the nation's environmental science cause.
