Following the death of Academician Sun Tieheng, Party and state leaders sent messages of condolence to express their grief and sympathy. Wreaths and couplets were sent by Zhou Ji, President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; provincial and municipal leaders Wang Min, Chen Zhenggao, Zeng Wei, Chen Haibo, Zhao Changyi and Jiang Hong; as well as relevant central, provincial and municipal units. Academician Sun Tieheng was born in March 1938. He graduated from Shenyang Agricultural College in 1963 and began working at the Institute of Applied Ecology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in the same year, serving successively as Head of the Pollution Ecology Research Department, Director of the Institute, and Chairman of the Academic Committee. In 2000, he led the establishment of FOFCC and served as Vice-Chairman of its Management Committee. He was elected as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2001, served as President of Shenyang University from 2004 to 2012, and has served as Chairman of the Shenyang Association for Science and Technology since 2003. Academician Sun is a renowned soil scientist, environmental engineer, and ecologist, as well as a pioneer and academic leader in pollution ecology and environmental engineering in China, having made outstanding contributions to the nation's environmental science endeavours.
