The JAS Organic logo is an image of the sun, clouds and plants. - In order to sell organic agricultural products or organic processed agricultural products labelled with the word [Organic] in the Japanese market, producers and processors must undergo inspections by a registered certification body and sell them only after obtaining certification (if the JAS mark is not affixed, processed foods other than organic livestock products, organic feed, and organic processed agricultural products may be labelled in any way they wish).
- Those who have not obtained organic JAS certification are not allowed to use the [Organic JAS] logo or the word [Organic] on their trade names. Private use of the logo will be subject to penalties under the JAS Act.
- The production standards for organic food are stipulated by the [Japan Agricultural and Forestry Standard for Organic Agricultural Products] [Japan Agricultural and Forestry Standard for Organic Processed Food] [Japan Agricultural and Forestry Standard for Organic Feed] [Japan Agricultural and Forestry Standard for Organic Livestock Products] [Japan Agricultural and Forestry Standard for Organic Algae] (hereinafter referred to as the [Organic JAS Standard]). The [Organic JAS Standard] specifies the methods for the production and processing of organic food.
- Producers, processors, distributors, and importers of agricultural products shall also be subject to inspection by a registered certification body in accordance with the [Technical Standards for Certification] to determine whether they are in compliance with the [Organic JAS Standards] in terms of food production, processing capacity, management system, and completeness of facilities and equipment.
