The origins of fair trade lie only in the aftermath of the Second World War in North America, when organisations purchased handicrafts from Puerto Rico. At that time, the first fair trade organisation in the United States, Thousand Villages, was also founded. In Europe and in the USA, the first Fairtrade organisations were linked to churches aiming to promote trade for disadvantaged groups in developing countries, and in 1988, the Max Havelaar Foundation was certified Fairtrade in the Netherlands and Switzerland, GEPA3 in Germany, and later by FLO (Fairtrade Labelling Organisation). In the conferences on organic certification promoted by IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture) in the 1990s, the question arose as to whether organic agriculture would become ‘fair’ or whether Fairtrade would specialise in organic production. In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for organic and Fairtrade products within the same product. Today, there are several organisations working with the Fairtrade sector on production, distribution and certification, and retail sales in 2013 alone reached approximately $600-800 million. Therefore, IBD certification, although it is a certification body for products and processes, is concerned with society and the environment and supports the production of organic agriculture in an economically, environmentally, humanly and socially sustainable model.
Since 2004, the IBD has introduced Fairtrade certification standards aimed at improving local social, fair trade and environmental aspects. Fairtrade has been used in many countries in different types of operations to achieve the international principles, objectives and goals of sustainable development and is favoured by buyers, especially of organic products.文章源自FOFCC-http://fofcc.org.cn/en/show/8536.html
