On May 14, 2010, the unveiling ceremony for the “Walmart Direct Procurement Base” was held in Jiewen Town, Haicheng City. The Jiulongchuan Edible Fungus Planting Professional Cooperative became Walmart's first edible fungus farmer-supermarket direct purchase base in Northeast China. The unveiling ceremony received great attention from the governments of Anshan City and Haicheng City at both levels. Key leaders and responsible comrades from relevant departments were all present and delivered important speeches, giving encouragement and support to this “farmer-supermarket” direct connection. FOFCC was also invited to send staff to attend the unveiling ceremony and read out the organic certification certificate. The unveiling ceremony also attracted journalists from many well-known media outlets, including CCTV, LNTV, and Liaoning Daily, to come and cover the event. This was another successful example of a “farmer-supermarket” direct connection by an FOFCC-certified enterprise, following the Jianping Zhuluke Organic Farm and Haicheng Sanxing Ecological Agriculture Co., Ltd. Walmart entered China in 1996. After thirteen years of development, it has opened more than 200 large chain supermarkets in over 90 cities across more than 30 provinces nationwide. After the on-site unveiling ceremony concluded, Mr. Huang Zhiping, Senior Procurement Director of Walmart China, stated: “As food safety is increasingly valued, vigorously developing organic food is highly consistent with Walmart's commitment to being an environmentally responsible retailer.” He expressed the hope to further cooperate with FOFCC, seek excellent organic agricultural product bases for cooperation, and together with leaders from Anshan and Haicheng Cities and responsible comrades from relevant departments, visited the Wangjiabu Nanguo Pear Base certified by FOFCC.
