On 14 May 2010, the unveiling ceremony for the Walmart Direct Farm Base was held in Jiewen Town, Haicheng City, with the Jiulongchuan Edible Mushroom Planting Professional Cooperative becoming Walmart's first direct agricultural-supermarket connection base for edible mushrooms in Northeast China. This unveiling ceremony received high praise and attention from the municipal governments of Anshan and Haicheng, with key leaders and officials from relevant departments all in attendance to deliver important speeches, offering encouragement and support for this type of agricultural-supermarket connection. FOFCC was also invited to send staff to attend the unveiling ceremony and read out the organic certificate. The event also attracted reporters from numerous well-known media outlets, including CCTV, LNTV and Liaoning Daily. Walmart entered China in 1996, and following thirteen years of development, it had opened more than 200 large-scale chain supermarkets across over 90 cities in more than 30 provinces nationwide. After the on-site unveiling ceremony, Mr Huang Zhiping, Senior Buying Director of Walmart China, stated: “At a time when food safety is receiving increasing attention, vigorously developing organic foods aligns closely with Walmart's commitment to being an environmentally friendly retailer.” He expressed the hope to further cooperate with FOFCC, seeking outstanding organic agricultural product bases for collaboration.
