Walmart recently announced new global agricultural sustainability commitments aimed at achieving sustainable sourcing of major agricultural products. Walmart will continue to promote the farmer-supermarket direct-purchase program in China and gradually expand its scale.
A Walmart executive stated that the purpose of this plan is to help small and medium-sized farmers expand their businesses, increase product income, reduce the impact of agricultural production on the environment, while promoting the local economy and providing global consumers with fresh, high-quality, and affordable food over the long term.
Mike Duke, Walmart's global president and CEO, stated that more than 1 billion people worldwide make a living from farming, and hundreds of millions of them live on less than $2 per day. As the global population surges, food production must increase by nearly 70% to meet the survival needs of 9 billion people by 2050.
Mike Duke also stated that for the benefit of farmers, communities, and consumers, Walmart is specifically seeking breakthroughs in food production by advocating sustainable agriculture. We strive to help farmers increase their income, guide more scientific use of pesticides, fertilizers, and water, and provide our customers with fresher agricultural products.
In China, Walmart will promote the successful experience of the farmer-supermarket direct-purchase program, enabling 2 million farmers to participate in it by the end of 2015, and reducing waste in the production process by 15%. In addition, it will require its private-label brands to use sustainably sourced palm oil, and by the end of 2015, upgrade 15% of farmer-supermarket direct-purchase products from green food certification to organic food certification.Өгүүлэл нь ...-аас авсанFOFCC-http://fofcc.org.cn/mn/11267/
