The Certification and Accreditation Administration held a symposium in Beijing on industry self-discipline for organic product certification bodies

　 On 24 February, the China Certification and Accreditation Association held a symposium in Beijing on industry self-regulation for organic product certification bodies. Che Wenyi, Deputy Director-General of the cnca, attended the meeting and addressed the gathering. Li Xiaolan, Executive Vice-President of the China Certification and Accreditation Association, Zhao Zongbo, Secretary-General, and Xu De Feng, Deputy Secretary-General, were also present.The meeting examined the approach, direction and principles for self-regulation within the organic product certification sector, and discussed specific measures for implementing such self-regulation. The symposium was attended by representatives from relevant departments of the cnca, the China National accreditation Centre for Conformity Assessment, the China Certification accreditation Association, relevant testing organisations and organic product certification bodies.
　　Che Wenyi emphasised that certification bodies, testing organisations, accreditation organisations, industry associations and the competent authorities within the accreditation sector must maintain effective channels of communication to ensure that sound systems are implemented effectively. He called on all parties to take further action to implement the outcomes of the symposium at various levels, thereby creating the conditions for the exchange of information and the sharing of information resources amongst certification bodies;certification bodies must strengthen their day-to-day supervision and guidance of organic product manufacturers; the accreditation Certification Association must reinforce the development of professional ethics amongst practitioners, purify the workforce, and deal severely with any individual practitioners who act irresponsibly or breach professional ethics.
　　Zhao Zongbo introduced the self-discipline working mechanisms and measures currently being implemented in the certification accreditation industry, such as personnel transition, price self-discipline, and certificate conversion, to the attendees. He stated that the China Certification accreditation Association will further strengthen self-discipline regulation in the organic certification field, fully cooperate with government authorities to carry out the work solidly and effectively, and promote the healthy development of the organic certification industry.
During the meeting, the heads of 23 organic product certification bodies shared their views on system implementation, the certification process, corporate production supervision, and supervision of the sales and distribution sectors within the field of organic product certification.
