2023 EU Organic Imports Report - China's Organic Exports to Europe Gradually Recovering

According to the report, in 2022, the total volume of EU organic product imports decreased by 9.1% compared with the previous year, falling from 2.87 million tonnes in 2021 to 2.73 million tonnes. This reflects the impact of inflation in 2022, which generally raised food prices and reduced public demand for organic products. Imports of organic fruits and vegetables, sugar, olive oil and palm oil, sunflower seeds, and pet food declined noticeably, while imports of organic soybeans, oilcakes, citrus fruits, rice, and honey maintained growth. In 2022, despite the impact of pandemic lockdown measures, China's total exports of organic products to the EU recovered from a sharp decline to positive growth (+30%), with the total still reaching 194,100 tonnes of organic products, of which 120,100 tonnes were oilcake products.
