The Huilonghu Organic Super Hybrid Rice Research and Development Base is Hunan's first organic super hybrid rice research and development base, jointly established by the National Center for Engineering and Research of Hybrid Rice and Hunan Huilonghu Modern Agriculture Technology Co., Ltd. It will take the lead in conducting research on related cultivation technologies and will be established as a demonstration and public communication platform for organic hybrid rice across the province. At this R&D base, reporters saw that the organic super hybrid rice—grown using proprietary organic fertilizer and pest control through physical methods and biotechnology—is growing very well. Base researcher Peng Jiming told reporters that, under the guidance of Academician Yuan Longping, the 180 mu of paddy fields cultivated using organic methods all headed by the end of August. Academician Yuan Longping stated that while ensuring increased rice yields, super hybrid rice has also seen increased research into further improving rice quality. Among the super hybrid rice combinations currently bred in China, the quality of some rice even rivals the world-renowned Thai rice.
