Core Content of the Agreement
- Newly Added Categories for Mutual Recognition
- Organic Livestock Products: Covering meat, dairy products, etc. Specialty products such as Japanese Wagyu and European cheese will benefit.
- Organic Alcoholic Beverages: Including wine, Japanese sake, etc., which previously could not enjoy mutual recognition facilitation due to the scope limitations of Japan's JAS Law.
- Effective Dates
- Japan side: Effective May 16, 2025, allowing the import of EU organic livestock products and alcoholic beverages.
- EU side: Effective May 18, 2025, Japanese organic products can be exported to the EU market.
- Practical Adjustments
- EU imports of organic alcoholic beverages may be certified by certification bodies for processed foods publicly designated by Japan, while organic livestock products require the EU to publicly designate certification bodies before trade can commence.
Background and Significance
This agreement expansion is a continuation of Japan'sJAS organic certification system reform. In 2022, Japan incorporated alcoholic beverages into the scope of organic certification through legal amendments and promoted equivalence negotiations with multiple countries. Under the Japan-EU Free Trade Agreement framework, tariffs on agricultural products from both sides have been substantially reduced, and this deepening of organic mutual recognition will accelerate the circulation of high-value-added products. This move is expected to drive growth in Japan's Wagyu and sake exports to Europe, while enriching the domestic supply of high-quality dairy products.Өгүүлэл нь ...-аас авсанFOFCC-http://fofcc.org.cn/mn/29281/
